Alert: CGL Issues Warning After Incident Involving THC-Laced Chocolate Bars
20 February 2025
Change Grow Live (CGL), a leading drug and alcohol support service, has issued an urgent warning to professionals and the public following a concerning incident involving THC-laced chocolate bars. The organisation is urging vigilance and has shared a form and process for reporting similar incidents to help prevent further harm.
Incident Details:
Two pupils at a London school recently collapsed, lost consciousness, and experienced hallucinations and seizures after consuming chocolate laced with Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Both students were hospitalised as a result. Initial investigations suggest the contaminated chocolate was purchased online via Snapchat. There are growing concerns that a product designed to mimic Cadbury’s chocolate bars is being circulated and sold to young people.

- Provide harm reduction messages to clients to educate them about the dangers of consuming unknown or illicit substances.
- Encourage individuals to access treatment through CGL’s support services.
- Report incidents involving new, novel, adulterated, or toxic drugs to the Local Drug Information System (LDIS). LDIS is a platform for professionals to share intelligence about dangerous substances. Reports can be sent to croydondrugalert@cgl.org.uk.
