Our recent Contextual Youth Work and Safeguarding Children’s Conference, a collaborative effort between Reaching Higher and the Croydon Safeguarding Children’s Partnership (CSCP), was a resounding success. Attended by a diverse mix of professionals from multi-agency backgrounds, the event offered a platform to exchange knowledge and strengthen the relationships between different sectors working to safeguard children in our community.
One of the key highlights of the conference was the rich variety of perspectives shared by engaging speakers. These experts brought valuable insights to the table, including contributions from agencies outside of Croydon, further broadening the scope of discussions. The inclusion of a youth panel allowed attendees to hear firsthand from young people, a crucial element in understanding the impact of safeguarding policies from the perspective of those most affected.

A Q&A panel also proved to be an important part of the day, providing an interactive space for delegates to engage with the speakers and ask critical questions. The conference was not only informative but also demonstrated genuine buy-in from attendees, showing their commitment to the safeguarding cause. The conference successfully strengthened relationships with the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) and raised awareness of the important work taking place in Croydon.
The event also had a lasting impact, as it attracted more sign-ups for safeguarding training demonstrating the effectiveness of the conference in inspiring further learning and development within the sector. We look forward to bringing a bigger and better event next year!
“I’ve realised the importance of engaging fully with both statutory and voluntary sectors to ensure the best possible outcomes for all children. Moving forward, I will be more mindful of thinking about the whole person in everything we implement.”
